Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania – Second-term state Rep. Summer Lee announced her 2022 campaign for U.S. Congress by releasing a statement and video Tuesday morning that highlighted her support of the Green New Deal movement. The video was retweeted by Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a prime sponsor of the resolution.

Rep. Lee has been public about her support of the Green New Deal, which would deal a heavy blow to construction jobs related to projects like the cracker plant being built just outside of Pittsburgh, which has reportedly caused frustration for longtime democrat labor leaders.

She held a campaign kickoff event in her hometown of Braddock later Tuesday morning.

Rep. Lee launched her campaign for Congress a day after longtime U.S. Rep. Mike Doyle said he wouldn’t seek reelection in the district representing Pittsburgh and suburbs in eastern and southern Allegheny County.
